Meet Dr. Janice Cen, DMD

Dr. Janice Cen is a general dentist whose approach to care is rooted in one simple belief: every patient deserves to feel comfortable, heard, and genuinely happy when they leave the chair. With five years of clinical experience, a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Boston University, and a breadth of advanced training that goes well beyond what most early-career dentists pursue, she brings both the skill and the warmth to back that belief up. From everyday restorative care to root canal treatment, clear aligner therapy, and surgical implant placement, Dr. Cen is equipped to take on complex cases with confidence — and to make the experience as easy as possible for the person sitting across from her. Why I Became a Dentist?

Dr. Cen was nineteen when she decided healthcare was where she was meant to be. She wanted to help people in a real, impactful way — and she wanted to work with her hands. For a while, she knew the direction, but not the destination. Then dentistry found her.

What resonated wasn't just the science or the craft, though she loves both. It was the immediacy of the impact. The ability to sit down with someone in pain and help them leave feeling better. The ability to show a patient their new smile and watch something shift in how they see themselves. The ability to meet someone exactly where they are and give them a reason to feel good about coming back. That combination — clinical skill, genuine connection, and visible results — is what she was looking for, and dentistry delivers it every single day.

She hasn't looked back since.

My Educational Background

Dr. Cen earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from Boston University's Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2021, one of the most respected dental programs in the United States. She also completed her undergraduate education at Boston University, giving her a deep, continuous academic foundation built in one of the country's leading research environments.

After graduation, Dr. Cen did something that says a great deal about who she is: instead of settling into a comfortable practice, she went looking for a challenge. She found a highly skilled mentor in Rhode Island and relocated specifically for the opportunity to learn from him — taking on complex cases, building her clinical range, and developing real confidence in restorative dentistry, root canal treatment, clear aligner therapy, and surgical implant placement.

That drive took her even further in 2023, when she traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico to complete an intensive live surgical implant course. Over the course of three days, working under the direct supervision of local oral surgeons, she placed ten dental implants. It was an experience she describes as life-changing — one that gave her the confidence to walk into any clinical situation and know she can handle it.

My Life Outside of the Dental Office

Outside the office, Dr. Cen is someone who throws herself fully into the things she loves. Volleyball is a weekly constant — she plays one to two times a week with a wonderful community of friends in the Boston area, and she'll tell you it's as much about the people as it is the game.

Travel is another passion she's made a real priority. She tries to get away two to four times a year, and this past year alone took her to the Dominican Republic, Montreal, and Italy. Hawaii is the dream destination on deck for next year.

She grew up in Newton, MA — a Massachusetts native through and through — and is close with her family, which she says has always been an anchor for her.
