Get To Know Dr. Nancy Mo

Dr. Poya Jafari

Why I Became A Dentist

Dr. Mo can vividly remember when she was introduced to a man named “Dr. Toothy.” He told her that over the course of the next four weeks, she would have eight teeth removed and metal wires “glued” to her teeth. So, you can see why this memory stuck! With dedication and perseverance, she completed orthodontic treatment in three years and was in awe of her smile – two straight rows of teeth snugly fitting together. This was when she began to view the makeover with curiosity instead of displeasure.

Although this experience was something that piqued Dr. Mo’s interest in dentistry, her decision to pursue this career path was solidified after shadowing, research, and didactics. When she realized it combined everything she excelled at (biomedical sciences, a desire to help others, and a passion for working with her hands) she was set on becoming a dentist!

My Educational Background

Growing up in New York, it was only natural for Dr. Mo to attend a school nearby. She chose to complete a combined BS/DDS program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. Next, she studied at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, which is where she also earned her MPH in the dental school's Section of Population Oral Health department in collaboration with the Mailman School of Public Health. The next step was to undergo a two-year residency program training in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Since then, she has completed additional training on surgical therapies, implant placement, endodontics, esthetic dentistry, and more. Plus, she maintains active memberships with:

  • American Dental Association
  • Massachusetts Dental Association
  • American Academy of General Dentistry

My Life Outside of the Dental Office

Away from the office, you’ll most likely find Dr. Mo spending time with her family. They love traveling together, especially to national parks. She loves the Northeast, which often inspires her to explore different sceneries year-round. Getting to adventure with her family while spending quality time with them is something she genuinely loves! Here’s a fun fact about her: she studied the Spanish language, culture, and diverse religions while studying abroad in Chile.
