In addition, your\ndentist may prescribe you with antibiotics to fight off the infection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Are Antibiotics Necessary?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antibiotics are generally prescribed when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your infection is severe <\/li><li>Your infection is starting to spread to other\nareas <\/li><li>You have a compromised immune system <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the time, your dentist will prescribe an antibiotic\nin the penicillin family for dental infections. However, many people are\nallergic to this kind of medicine, so be sure to report any allergic reaction\nyou experience, even if it\u2019s very mild. Your dentist can then give you another\ntype of antibiotic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, be sure to always take the full course of\nantibiotics that have been prescribed to you. If you don\u2019t take all the pills\ngiven to you, some bacteria may survive, and your infection might return,\ncausing pain and potentially other complications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can You Prevent a Tooth Infection?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To keep a toothache due to infection from happening, be sure\nto stick to the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Floss at least once a day.<\/li><li>Brush your teeth every morning and every night\nwith fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. <\/li><li>Avoid smoking or chewing tobacco. &nbsp;<\/li><li>Visit your dentist twice a year for a checkup\nand professional cleaning. <\/li><li>Keep consumption of sugary foods and beverages\nto a minimum. <\/li><li>Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and\nchewing sugar-free gum after meals and snacks. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toothaches are no fun, but by following the steps listed\nabove, you can keep dental infections at bay.
